At DVA Fiber Mill, we process our raw fiber through several stages. First, we scour each fleece using gentle biodegradable detergents. After drying, the fiber passes through the Picker to open up large non-processable clumps.

The Dehairer removes vegetation and coarse hairs by centripetal force. The Carder produces an even web of parallel fibers which are either twisted into a soft, even roving, a stage before yarn, or it is rolled onto a drum for form a batt for making felt. The Draw Frame stretches the rovings into thinner and more even rovings. Drawn rovings are great for beginning hand-spinners!

The Spinning Frame spins the fluffy rovings into compact single plies of yarn, These single plies are plied back in the opposite direction with other plies to form either 2- or 3-ply yarn, which add both body and strength. Finished yarn is steamed and rolled onto a cone, the best containment method for yarn to be used by the customer. If the yarn is to be sold, we can make skeins from the coned yarn for a nominal service fee.
The minimum fleece unit size is 48 oz. (3 lbs.) without extra charge. Fleece needs to be skirted (any debris larger than your fingernail needs to be removed.) We do not skirt fleece. Management has the right to refuse any fleece not skirted appropriately.

Fibers need to be between 2-6 inches in length. Fiber longer than six inches needs to be cut to an acceptable length.
Processing Fees
All yarn is available in these weights: Lace, Lite, Medium Lite, and Medium, Chunky, and Bulky. Prices include washing, picking, fiber separating, carding, spinning plying and cone winding. Prices include dehairing.
All prices are based on OUTGOING weight.
